The director Georgina Kakoudaki talks about her Dream
The director Georgina Kakoudaki will talk about her production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream for adolescent audiences.
Georgina Kakoudaki is a graduate of the Theatre Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Since 2009 she has specialised as a director in professional theatre performances for adolescent and young audiences, presented in theatre venues as well as secondary schools. These productions include Αristophanes’s The Birds, Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Goethe’s Faust, Sophocles’s Antigone, Aristophanes’s The Clouds, Euripides’s Helen.
She has also organised site-specific walks and performances in Greece (at the ancient cemetery of Keramikos in Athens, the Cultural Centre of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, the Municipal Theatre of Corfu and elsewhere) as well as abroad (at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts).
Since 1994 she has collaborated as a dramaturg in dance and theatre productions with artists such as SineQuaNon dance co. (France), Siamese Twins dance co. (Belgium), Greek dance companies such as Patricia Apergi / Aerites dance co., Apostolia Papadamaki / Quasi Stellar co., Mariela Nestora / Yelp dance co., as well as theatre directors Thanos Papakonstantinou, Barbara Dukas, Giannis Kakleas, Dimitris Karantzas, Katerina Giannopoulou, 4Frontal theatre group etc.
She has worked as a visiting instructor in theatre pedagogics at the Theatre Departments of the Universities of Patras and Nafplion, as well as the Departments of Early Childhood Education of the Universities of Athens and Volos.
Since 1993 she has taught drama and theatre education in primary schools, the Athens Art High School and professional drama schools, as well as in a series of workshops for the “Net for the Theatre in Education” in Greece. She is also author of books on theatre and education.
She has worked as chief librarian at the achive of the National Theatre of Greece (1997-2004) and has also worked in educational programmes of the National Theatre.
From 2016 to 2019 she was co-curator of educational programmes at the Festival of Athens and Epidaurus and Artistic Director of “Epidaurus Lyceum”, an international summer school on ancient drama.
