The theatre director Alexandros Cohen will share with us his views on Shakespeare and will present his three Shakespearean productions, namely Much Ado about Nothing (2011), Timon of Athens (2014) and Cymbeline (2016), in a recording prepared especially for the ESRA Conference 2021.
Alexandros Cohen has studied theatre in London (MA in Theatre Directing, Middlesex University), Moscow (postgraduate courses on Theatre Directing, GITIS) and Greece (“Iasmos” School of Dramatic Art).
As a director he has collaborated with the Municipal Theatres of Piraeus and Agrinio, the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, as well as several well-known Athenian theatres (Alma, Alpha, Altera Pars, Argo, Athinon, Chytirio, Dimitris Horn, Epi Kolono, Exarchion, Simio, Synchrono, Veaki, Vretania and others).
Apart from Shakespeare, he has staged plays by Carlo Goldoni, Friedrich Schiller, Gerhart Hauptmann, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Henrik Ibsen, Maxim Gorki, Richard Brinsley Sheridan, John Priestley, John Osborne, Eugene O’Neill, Tennessee Williams, Lillian Hellman and others.
He has also translated plays by Shakespeare as well as Richard Brinsley Sheridan, John Priestley, John Osborne, Peter Shaffer, Martin McDonagh, Eugene O’Neill, Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, Lillian Hellman, Friedrich Schiller, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Arthur Schnitzler, Bertolt Brecht and others.
He teaches at the “Iasmos” School of Dramatic Art, where he is also Artistic Director.
He is also Artistic Director of “Hyperion” Theatrical Enterprises, which he founded in 2010.
